He and Dr. Ralph Spires opened Lakeside Hospital in March 1948. At Lakeside Hospital, Dr. Myers delivered more than 4,000 babies. In 1978, the Lakeside Hospital building was sold and Dr. Myers continued his practice of medicine in the Warren Building. Dr. Myers' specialty was surgery and he was noted in the medical community as a skilled surgeon. He was one of the original investors and founders of First Federal Savings and Loan Association and served many years as its board chairman.
He retired from private practice in 1983 and became director of the health unit in late 1984, a position he held until his retirement in 1994. He was the personification of a "country doctor."
