During our Florida Chautauqua Assemblies, we often introduce a special project to benefit a non-profit or charity. This year, we’ve chosen a noteworthy Walton County beneficiary: The Muskogee Nation of Florida Tribal Museum, located in the 1880s Tribal Schoolhouse at 278 Church Road, Bruce, FL 32455. The museum’s mission is “to preserve, protect, and share the history and traditions of Walton County’s Euchee Creek citizens.” Currently, a work in progress, the museum is due to open Memorial Day weekend 2023. Chautauqua visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about these Native Americans who have been part of our Walton County history and landscape for about two centuries. Ann Tucker, current Chairwoman of the Tribal Council will present a breakout session to inform visitors about her people and the museum. Because donations to the museum are tax deductible, appropriate paperwork will be made available. Come learn about this fascinating aspect of Walton County history.
Muscogee Nation of Florida is a non-profit Tribal Government whose mission is to preserve, protect, and share the history and traditions of Walton County’s Euchee Creek citizens. Oral histories, photographs, tribal art, and interactive films are housed in its 1880s Tribal Schoolhouse, the heart of the Bruce Community. All donations are tax deductible and are used to enhance current exhibits, maintain the historic 3 room schoolhouse, and enable classes in the adjacent Jan Stevens Learning Center.
